CMA CGM Bougainville

CMA CGM Bougainville vesselThe box ship CMA CGM Bougainville is the largest merchant vessel sailing under the French flag. The ship was built in 2015 by Samsung Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries in South Korea. The carrier is equipped with the latest environmental technologies for safety and reliable operations, implementing the most modern developments in marine engineering. CMA CGM Bougainville is giant container ship with overall length of 398.00 m, moulded beam of 54.00 m and maximum draft of 16.10 m. The summer deadweight of the carrier is 185,000 DWT and the gross tonnage is 175,000 GRT. With such dimensions, the cargo ship has maximum capacity for 18,000 TEU with 1,254 reefer plugs for transportation of temperature controlled cargo. The large capacity allows more effective operations with lower cost per container, but also improve the environmental safety.

The container ship CMA CGM Bougainville has an optimized layout. Located at the front of the vessel, the castle maximizes the use of space while providing better visibility from the bridge and gives the ship more resistance to torsion. This layout also allows for the fuel tank to be placed under the castle, being protected by the ship’s double hull, which makes the vessel in compliance with the MARPOL 12A regulation. At the rear of the vessel, the engine room is located near the propeller, which limits the space loss that could result from a propeller shaft crossing the ship.

The engineering of the ship CMA CGM Bougainville is reliable and strong. The main engine is low-speed MAN B&W 11S90ME-C9.2, which is from new generation. The aggregate has total output power of 85,900 hp. Such power allows the vessel to operate with service speed of 19.5 kts. The main engine allows a better energy efficiency, by being better suited to slow steaming, and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This latest generation of engines considerably reduces consumption of fuel (-3% on average) and for oil (-25%). The modern engineering on board reduces the fuel consumption and green gas emissions. The vessel’s CO2 emissions average at only 37g of CO2/km for each container, while the energy efficiency almost three times higher than recorded by the group’s fleet.

The container ship CMA CGM Bougainville was registered in Marseilles, operating under the flag of France. The ship is registered with IMO number 9702156, MMSI 228067900 and call sign FIVD.
