MSC Magnifica is large and modern cruise ship, built in 2010 with yard number T32 in STX Europe shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The vessel is Musica-class, operated by MSC Cruises on rotation in the western Mediterranean. The cruise ship has overall length of 293.80 m, moulded beam of 32.30 m and maximum draft of 7.85 m. The cruise ship is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system, powered by five diesel engines Wartsila 16V38B, each with power of 15,550 hp. The total engines power is 77,750 hp, which is transmitted to the two Aceo leroy Somer converteam electric motors power each with power of 17.5 MW, or total 35,000 kW, and two fixed propellers with conventional shafts. Such power is enough for the cruise ship to operate with service speed of 23.0 kts, while the maximum speed during trials exceed 24.5 kts. Also on board of the modern cruise ship there are five diesel generators. The engineering is powerful and highly reliable, having low fuel consumption and high efficiency.
