The mega container ship NYK Eagle was built in late 2016 by Kure Shipyard in Japan, implementing the latest technologies of marine industry. The container carrier is third of a new series of 15 vessels, which will be built for highest efficiency on about actual operations of the Far East-Europe route. NYK Eagle has overall length of 364.15 m, moulded beam of 50.60 m, boards depth of 29.50 m and maximum summer draft of 15.75 m. With these dimensions, the container carrier has deadweight of 139,335 DWT and gross tonnage of 144,285 GRT. The mega boxship NYK Eagle achieves high propulsion efficiency through its sophisticated lower resistance hull form and powerful main engine Wartsila W9X82, which has total output power of 57,350 hp at 82 rpm. The main engine is electronically controlled with the common rail system to reduce the fuel oil consumption in various speed ranges, achieving environmentally friendly operation and low CO2 emissions. The Wartsila W9X82 is 9-cylinder aggregate fully compliant with IMO Tier III NOx emission levels when equipped with a SCR catalyst. Moreover, the high power of the main engine allows operations of the container ship NYK Eagle with service speed of 22.5 kts, while the maximum speed under ballast can exceed 24.0 kts.
The boxship NYK Eagle is designed to operate with minimum ballast water under cargo, due to the superior stability and hull strength. The construction incorporates the structural brittle crack arrest design for ultralarge container ships.
