Yakumosan

YakumosanThe very large crude carrier Yakumosan was built in 2008 by IHI Marine United in their Jmu Kure Shipyard in Japan. The vessel has an overall length of 333.00 m and length between perpendiculars of 324.00 m, while the moulded beam is 60.00 m, the depth is 29.00 m and the maximum draft is 19.20 m. The ship was designed according to the latest IMO standards, implementing the latest marine engineering technologies and requirements for safety and environmental operations. The deadweight of the VLCC Yakumosan is 302,165 DWT, the gross tonnage is 159,943 GRT and the net tonnage is 97,999 NT. The large dimensions of the vessel allow a maximum cargo capacity of 350,011 cbm. The ship was constructed with a double hull, preventing leaks and environmental pollution in case of accidents, such as grounding, collision, or breaching. This is important, as the vessel carries 2.2 million barrels at every voyage.

The engineering of the ship is economical, environmental, and reliable. The main engine of the VLCC Yakumosan is DU-Sulzer 7RT-flex84T-D, which has a total output power of 36,400 hp at 74 rpm. With such power, the crude carrier can operate at a service speed of 15.8 kts, while the maximum one under ballast exceeds 16.5 kts. The low-speed marine diesel engine has low fuel consumption and reduced harmful gas emissions. The aggregate has 7-cylinders, each with a bore of 840 mm and a stroke of 3,150 mm with a controlled fuel injection system for better combustion and low energy losses. Also, the engineering system consists of 2 boilers and 4 auxiliary diesel generators, which support the operations of the main engine. The shipbuilders installed filters of sulfur emissions and double-burning of gasses, which improves the efficiency of the propulsion system and makes the vessel eco-friendly.

The very large crude carrier Yakumosan is classified by the Japanese register ClassNK. The vessel is operating under IMO number 9362877, MMSI 538003428, and call sign V7QS7. Yakumosan is operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands with homeport Majuro. The ship is managed by the Danish company Nova Tankers.
