The very large crude carrier AFRODITA I was built in 2009 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in the shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The ship is implementing the most modern engineering and marine technologies, but also being profitable and highly effective for the transportation of crude oil. The oil tanker is owned by the Greek company Andriaki Shipping and one of the most profitable vessels in its fleet, being chartered by Shell Trading and Shipping Company (STASCO). The VLCC AFRODITA I has an overall length of 333.00 m, moulded beam of 60.00 m, and a maximum draft of 22.30 m. The deadweight of the ship is 318,325 DWT and the gross tonnage is 160,502 GRT. The dimensions and tonnage of the vessel give the capacity for 338,671 cbm at cargo tanks full-on 100%. The ship is specialized in the transportation of crude oil but can be loaded from four separate points for faster cargo handling.
The VLCC AFRODITA I has reliable and strong engineering and propulsion system. The vessel features machinery installation incorporating a Wartsila 7RT-flex82T main engine with an output of 42,500 hp at 84 rpm. The high power allows operations of the cargo ship with a speed of 15.0 kts, while the maximum speed under ballast is 17.0 kts. The vessel is also equipped with the Super Trident Sewage Treatment Plant ST2A, certified to meet IMO MEPC 159(55) rules. The engine is optimized for the treatment of black and grey wastewater flows, and suitable for conventional gravity and vacuum fed collection systems. The Wartsila Hamworthy Sewage Treatment Plant is controlled automatically, allowing unattended operation, with reduced maintenance requirements and lower long-term operating costs. The vessel has filters for zero sulfur emissions, as well as reduces the harmful CO2 gases during operations. The reliable engine has also lower consumption of fuel, which makes the VLCC more profitable.
