COSCO Shipping Nebula is one of the largest container ships nowadays. The 21,000 TEU newbuild containership was delivered to its new owners on October 23, 2018, at Jiangnan Shipyard in China. The vessel has an overall length of 399.80 m, moulded beam of 58.60 m, a depth of 33.50 m, and a maximum draught of 16.00 m. With such dimensions, the container carrier has a gross tonnage of 215,553 GRT, deadweight of 197,902 DWT, and a maximum load of 21,237 TEUs. The vessel COSCO Shipping Nebula is implementing the most modern marine engineering innovations and comply with IMO Tier II and Tier III emission limits, which make it reliable and environmental. The large capacity coincides with the expansion of maritime transport and container shipping, as well as needs for lowering costs per TEU.
COSCO Shipping Nebula is equipped with three ABB A180-L two-stroke turbochargers, each with a power of 14,563 hp, to match the diesel main engine and four ABB TPL67-C33 4-stroke turbochargers to match four auxiliary engines. The engines are from the latest generation, having pressure ratio at least 5.0 combined with high specific air volume flow. They feature with the integrated lubrication oil tank and turbocharger cutout for dual rating applications, as well as filter silencer casing for further savings in fuel consumption. The air outlet silencer of the power unit reduces engine noise and vibrations. Key benefits for ABB’s A100 series include compliance with IMO Tier II and Tier III emission limits and reduced fuel consumption.
COSCO Shipping Nebula is the latest generations ultra-large container ship (ULCS), which will operate on North Europe Service 3 (NE3), connecting the ports of Xingang, Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Singapore, Piraeus, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp. The vessel is operating under IMO number 9795622 and MMSI 477194400, under the flag of Hong Kong.
