Kirishima

KirishimaKirishima is a very large crude carrier (VLCC) with a deadweight of 312,539 DWT and gross tonnage of 159,793 GRT. The giant vessel was built in 2017 by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding at its Chiba Works yard. The ship is a double hull VLCC featuring the largest deadweight and cargo oil tank capacity with dimensions complying with major port restrictions in Japan. Kirishima has an overall length of 339.50 m, moulded beam of 60.00 m and a maximum draft of 28.50 m. She is the first of the MES neoVLCC series featuring excellent fuel efficiency as a next-generation eco-ship. The vessels from this class are the largest VLCCs with an improved deadweight of over 310,000 tons, as well as better propulsion performance and transport efficiency achieved by modern energy-saving technologies. Kirishima is a modern ship, which coincides with the latest IMO standards and requirements of the shipping industry for low costs and high efficiency.

The main engine is two-Stroke, low-Speed triple fuel Mitsui-MAN B&W 7G80ME-C9.5, which has a total output power of 44,213 hp. The engine delivers significant reductions in CO2, NOx and SOx emissions. Furthermore, the engine negligible fuel slip makes it the most environmentally friendly technology available. The ME-GI engine is designed as an add-on to the MAN B&W two-stroke ME engine technology. It allows the engine to run on either heavy fuel oil (HFO) or liquid natural gas (LNG), which complies with latest IMO standards for low-sulfur and CO2 emissions. The low-sulfur fuel oil tanks are arranged with a proactive design for future installation of the exhaust gas cleaning system (SOx scrubber). The ship’s engineering is equipped with the vapour emission Control System (VECS), which improves the environmental operations. Fuel oil consumption of the vessel is further improved.

The waste heat recovery system (WHRS) utilizes main engine exhaust gas energy, and the vessel has a turbogenerator system and main engine tuned to the optimum condition, which reduces the ship operating costs.

The VLCC Kirishima is operating with IMO number 9782508 and MMSI 372894000. The ship is operating under the flag of Panama.
